It depends on each individual, but you can expect to take up to 1 year to reach mastery of each JLPT level.
The JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) measures general Japanese ability. It focuses on reading and listening skills, covering grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension needed for daily life, study, or work. The test does not include speaking or writing. It is divided into five levels, from N5 (beginner) to N1 (advanced).
The BJT (Business Japanese Proficiency Test) evaluates practical communication skills in a professional environment. It tests how well you can understand business emails, meetings, and conversations. The BJT is designed for individuals aiming to work in Japan-based or Japanese-speaking companies.
It is recommended to be able to understand Japanese used in everyday situations, where you can read and understand slightly difficult writing—like news headlines—and follow conversations spoken at a normal speed (equivalent of JLPT N3) before considering BJT.
